Document Description
The Tehama-Glenn Unit of CAL FIRE is proposing a fuel reduction project. The Zane Ranch Fuel Reduction Project is located within the Payne's Creek community located 25 miles east of Red Bluff in Eastern Tehama County. Access is via State Route Highway 36E. The community is located adjacent to Payne's Creek in the eastern edge of the Cascade Range conifer belt. Elevation ranges from 2000-2500 feet. The vegetation type is best described as foothill pine habitat. The understory consists of primarily chaparral and manzanita. Payne's Creek is identified on the Fire Hazard Severity Zone Map as a community in an area of high risk for large-scale vegetation fires.
Project work will entail removing ladder fuels loading on the Zane Ranch. This will be accomplished by, brushing, as well as thinning and removing live and downed trees thus decreasing levels of ladder fuels. Preference for trees to be left within the target area are Ponderosa Pine, Incense Cedar, Douglas fir, mature Manzanita and Black Oak. Trees to be left on site will have their branches pruned up to 8' above ground label resulting in minimum live crown of 50%.
