- Document Description
- This project involves the provision of funding for the City of Arcata to purchase this property from a private party and for CAL FIRE to place a conservation easement on the property that restricts development. The primary purpose of this acquisition of real property and establishment of a Conservation Easement on the property is to: a) protect the forest soils of the property and the productive viability of the forestland in perpetuity pursuant to clearly delineated federal, state and local governmental policies for the protection of the open space characteristics of natural resource landscape; and b) protect the natural, ecological, cultural, educational, scenic, forested and open space values of the parcels. CAL FIRE's Forest legacy Program will establish and hold a conservation easement that will restrict residential or commercial development of the property but will allow public recreational access. The City of Arcata will add this property to their Arcata Community Forest Ownership and will amend their existing NTMP to include this property.
