Document Description
The purpose of this project is to reroute a short portion of Adobe Road where a washout occurred during early 2017. The project will take place in the Lower Ranch Adobe section. In early 2017, consecutive high volume rain events impacted the area, damaging several roads and trails in the park, Adobe Road being one of the most severe. A large section of road, roughly 30 feet, washed out as a result of the multiple storms, making the road impassable. Adobe Road is a blue square difficulty rated road used by dirt bikes and ATVs, and serves as a main access road throughout the Adobe portion of the Lower Ranch. Visitor Service staff use this road for patrol and access to various trails in the Adobe. As such, it is necessary to have Adobe Road intact and be traversable with a 4x4 pickup/patrol vehicle. To open the road, a minor reroute will be cut above the portion of road that was washed out. An approximately 10 foot wide road will be constructed using a dozer. The rerouted section will be roughly 400 feet long, however this could vary depending on the exact alignment. The rerouted section will climb above the old road cut and will greatly descend back to the existing Adobe Road bench cut. Vegetation at the project site consist of species common to the oak woodland/oak savanna communities. No trees will be removed to complete the reroute, although minor brushing and limbing of trees and shrubs will occur to allow equipment to cut the new road.
