The proposed modernization project involves the demolition and removal of existing school buildings, including 15 classrooms in 14 portable buildings. New permanent school facilities would be constructed in their place. The existing school would have a net loss of 2 classrooms. The project would improve the parking areas and pedestrian/student loading zone for vehicular circulation and pedestrian safety. A new bicycle rack, cantilever-type shade structures, stormwater planters, outdoor seating area, fencing, and entry gate to secure the campus would be installed. Remaining facilities not removed or demolished would be modernized. Mechanical equipment would be upgraded, classroom spaces would be renovated, and outdoor recreational facilities and campus security would be enhanced. The project would benefit students.

Notice of Exemption

Exempt Status
Categorical Exemption
Type, Section or Code

Reasons for Exemption
Minor alterations to schools - minor additions to existing schools within existing school grounds where the addition does not increase original student capacity by more than 25% or 10 classrooms, whichever is less. The project would meet the criteria as the project would remove portable buildings and construct two new buildings; however, it would result in the loss of two classrooms and would reduce Hermosa View seating capacity by 48 seats.
