In 2017, an established population of nutria, an invasive mammal regulated by CDFW and CDFA, was found in Merced, Stanislaus, Fresno Counties, and beyond. To prevent devastation of aquatic habitats, water supplies, and levees, agency partners will survey for nutria presence and implement eradication trapping where found.

This project is for the elimination/control of undesirable species for the protection of the environment and natural resources, includin native wildlife dependent upon wetland habitat, aquatic and riparian vegetation, the Delta ecosystem and levee infrastructure, and CA's ag crops. This project type is explicitly identified as an exempt action in 14 CCR 757(c)(7)(C).
