- The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) proposes a Traffic Safety project to install a railroad pre-emption system on State Route (SR) 59 from the Cooper Avenue to Santa Fe Drive/W. Olive Avenue in the City of Merced, Merced County. All work will occur within Caltrans right of way. The purpose of this project is to manage the flow of traffic through the railroad crossing. The need for the project is to reduce the number of severity of collisions between motor vehicles and motor vehicles and trains.
