CARB is developing strategies to transition the heavy-duty mobile source sector to zero and near-zero technologies to meet air quality, climate, and public health protection goals. The innovative Clean Transit Regulation is the first step in a broader strategy to achieve a transformation to zero and near-zero technologies. This regulation will allow a smooth transition for public transit bus fleets to zero emission technologies over a 20-year period, while providing transit agencies the flexibility to continue to evolve to meet expanding needs for effective, efficient, and affordable transit services across CA. In addition, this regulation will provide flexibility to transit agencies to utilize other zero emission transportation modes and improve mobility and connectivity.
