Document Description
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has issued Incidental Take Permit No. 2081-2017-041-04, pursuant to Section 2081 subdivision (b) of the Fish and Game Code (see Cal. Code Regs., tit. 14, S 783.2) to Southern California Gas Company to incidentally take San Joaquin antelope squirrel which is listed as threatened, and giant kangaroo rat which is listed as endangered under the California Endangered Species Act (CESA; Fish & G Code 2050 et seq.; see Cal. Code Regs., tit. 14, s 670.5, subd. (b)(6)(B) and (a)(6)(C), respectively). Project activities include replacing an unexpected and potentially hazardous leak in the main line valve assembly on Line 85, installing two stopples, replacing the chain link fence, asphalt paving within the fencing, and demolishing the existing wood vault. The new assembly will be buried with valve operator extensions above ground alongside the blowdown stack. Replacement of the valve assembly will require excavating a 4,000 square foot area a maximum of 15 feet deep. Excavation will be backfilled to 90% compaction utilizing zero slack slurry or native fill with no rocks or debris. Approximately 3,400 square feet (0.07 acre) will be disturbed for the main line valve assembly installation and approximately 72,259 square feet (1.66 acres) will be disturbed for temporary construction and staging areas. Staging areas will be located within the adjacent area within the habitat and the right-of-way dirt access road just west of the structure. Work is anticipated to take up to two months to complete.
