Document Description
This project is the construction of a concrete abutment directly in front of the Get Tired obstacle at the 4 x 4 Obstacle Training Area. The obstacle was constructed using different sized big truck and tractor tires to create a rubber hillclimb for park visitors to test out their vehicle's suspensions capabilities while trying to surmont the obstacle. Due to the native soils' lack of clay content, the area directly in front of the obstacle is "dug" out by the accelerating tires that spin on the ground in an effort to push the vehicle up and over the obstacle. This creates quite the rut that district operators have to keep filling in. Adding in a concrete abutment in place of the native soils will greatly proiong the life of the obstacle and greatly reduce, to a minimum, the level of maintenance required to maintain this obstacle.
