Document Description
Caltrans proposes to repair, and/or replace culverts at 35 locations in Amador and Tuolumne Counties. CIPP lining will be installed in 23 drainage systems where existing CMP sizes vary from 18 inches to 50 inches in diameter. In this process existing culverts would be cleaned with vactor/vacuum machines, or by hand, and any protrusions, or holes on the inside of the culvert would be repaired. A pipe lining (flexible fabric sleeve) would then be inserted into the culvert. The end of the liners would be plugged, the liners would be inflated, and then cured with hot water or steam, a process known as "curling in place." Four culvert locations will be repaired or cleaned only.
Caltrans also proposes to replace 8 existing CMP culverts with reinforced concrete pipes. After removal of the existing culvert, a new culvert would be installed, and backfilled with minor concrete or cement slurry. Highway pavement, striping, and shoulder backing would then be replaced over the new culvert.
