- The project proposes to install fire and life safety upgrades at the Che Cafe. The scope of work would include underground utility work, trenching, cement/asphalt patch work and ADA parking upgrades. Scope of work would also include fire alarms, fire sprinkler system, structural upgrades required to support fire upgrades and exterior door in assembly room. Scope of work includes installation of new walls, flooring, fixtures, and mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems for a new ADA gender inclusive restroom. Walls would be patched and painted as needed. These upgrades are required by the building official to maintain operations.

- Based on the above project description, the Che Cafe fire and life safety upgrade projects is classified as exempt from the provisions of CEQA under Section 15301 Existing Facilities. The project planning activities fall under Class 1 because there is no expansion of use beyond that existing at the time of determination. The project would rehabilitate a deteriorated structure to meet current standards of public health and safety. In addition none of the exception to the exemptions apply.
