Document Description
This project consists of the installation and operation of a permanent fixed Remote Automated Weather Station (RAWS) in Gaviota State Park. The RAWS unit is an FTS 6 model manufactured by Forest Technology Systems. It is composed of an aluminum tripod frame that measures 10 feet wide by 6 feet tall. The unit has a single aluminum pole 20 feet high with a wind sensor mounted. The unit sits directly on the ground requiring minimal soil disturbance. Various weather instruments are mounted to the frame including a small solar panel which provide power to the unit. The RAWS site is located at the top of a remote ridge in a mixed chaparral fuel bed with some open areas of annual grass.
