Document Description
Project consists of removing the tailings and soil from in front of the dam so that concrete can be used to fill in the concrete arches and an earthen berm will be placed in front of the dam. The DTSC is overseeing the retrofit of the dam pursuant to CA Health and Safety Code Section 25356.1. The purpose of the Remedial Action Plan is to retrofit the dam and remove the immediate potential risk to human health and the environment by reducing or eliminating a failure of the dam which would release arsenic-contaminated failings into the drainage of the City of Jackson, CA. Cleanup activities to be conducted pursuant to the Response Plan include the following: Excavate an estimated 63,000 cubic yards of impacted tailings from in front of the dam to Argonaut Dr. consolidate the excavated impacted tailings on-Site, beneath a clean soil "cap". Fill the concrete arches of the dam will foaming concrete and placed a clean fill berm in front fo the dam for stability.
