Document Description
The project involves construction and operation of a new biorefinery at the project site, co-located with the Delta Diablo wastewater treatment plant in Antioch. The project would convert food waste and wastewater sludge via an anaerobic digestion process into a range of bioproducts and biogas which can be used to generate renewable energy. The project is expected to have multiple benefits: biopower generation, waste and wastewater management, generation of sale-able co-products, and reduction of GHG emission sources. The project would transform the district from a net-energy-consumer to a net-energy-producer capable of meeting all the WWTP energy needs with surplus available for export from the site for other uses. Exported energy could be in the form of electricity or biogas treated for local use, or as vehicle fuel.
