Document Description
DWR San Joaquin Field Division performs yearly maintenance to the State Water Project. This requires that specific portions of the CAAQ coastal branch be shut down and emptied of all water, so that SJFD personnel can safely perform the various maintenance activities. This work, known as the 2017 Coastal Outage, will involve the dewatering of the Devil's Den Pumping Plant forebay, the Bluestone Pumping Plant forebay, and vault 16.15. Water will be released into an ephemeral drainage at BLPP and water will be released into a manmade sediment basin at DEPP. Although water at DEPP may be released over land during dewatering due to the limited size of the sediment basin. Water will be released directly into the Berenda Mesa Water District canal during dewatering at Vault 16.15. The Coastal Outage would begin on October 30, 2017 and end November 27, 2017. However dewatering activities could begin as early as October 23, 2016. Dewatering activities are estimated to be complete within 7-10 days from the start of dewatering activities.
