Document Description
SMUD proposes to install a 110 ft tall steel pole that will be used to support two 230 kV circuits, a 69 kV underbuild, and fiber optic cables. The new pole would be placed mid-span within the existing transmission line easement and would support the existing conductors. There is a line of poles that currently exists in the transmission easement and support two 230 kV lines consisting of 6 wires, one 69 kV line consisting of 3 wires, and two fiber optic communication circuits. The pole will be directly embedded 13 ft into the ground with the diameter of the hole measuring approx three to four ft. Once construction is complete the pole will be 97 ft tall at finished grade. This pole will assist in reducing the span between the existing poles thereby eliminating additional sag in the line when temperatures increase and to also decrease the blowout of the line when high winds occur. The work area consists of landscaped open space and a sidewalk. SMUD will utilize the landscaped lawn adjacent to the proposed new pole location as a temporary laydown area for pole materials. The work is scheduled to start in October or November 2017 and construction is expected to take approx two weeks.
