Durphy Creek Bridge Replacement 3 & 4
NOE - Notice of Exemption
Replace two rotting wooden beam bridges on the Durphy Creek Trail in Richardson Grove State Park with two all-weather I-beam stringer bridges to improve public safety and guarantee continued public access to the Durphy Creek. For Removal: Suspend a tarp beneath the bridge structure to capture small debris that may fall during removal (and construction of the new bridge); attaching rigging components to nearby trees to transport materials to the site and to span across the creek to lift old bridge components out of place; dismantle the old bridge and remove all hardware from untreated redwood and scatter the untreated redwood across the forest floor, out of view; and remove treated wood and hardware from the site and dispose of at the maintenance yard. For Construction: Pour new 8' by 4' concrete abutments with connected mudsills in the same locations as those for the old bridge; use overhead rigging to lift into place and install prefabricated stingers; attach the new redwood decking and rails to the stingers; and disassemble the rigging and remove it from the site.
Project consists of the replacement of existing structures where the new structure will be located on the same site as the structured replaced and will have substantially the same purpose and capacity as the structure replaced and minor public, alterations in the condition of land, water, and/or vegetation which does not involve the removal of healthy, nature, and scenic trees.
