Document Description
The basic function of the REE fuel-break is to impose some obstacle to the spread of a wildfire and as a means of access to the fire. This fuel break is a wide strip of land where most shrubs have been removed and remaining trees are limbed up 6 to 8 feet of the surface. The intent is to have a grass understory to provide soil cover. The Fuel break is designed to change the behavior of a wildfire by reducing the quantity, density, and configuration of potential fuel that the fire encounters when it enters the fuel break. The effectiveness of this fuel break has been determined by proper location, installation, and maintenance and adequate defense by fire suppression forces.
