Document Description
Transient Plasma Systems, Inc. will develop a production intent prototype of a low-energy non-thermal plasma ignition system. This project expands on previous experimental work demonstrating transient plasma ignition in single-cylinder test engines to further develop the technology into a multi-cylinder system. A manufacturing analysis will be performed to understand the limitations of the system, estimate manufacturing costs, and understand potential failure points. Argonne National Laboratory will test the completed multi-cylinder ignition system on a Cummins Westport ISX12G Near Zero engine in an engine test cell sized for heavy-duty engines.

This project is exempt under Cal. Code Regs., tit 14, Section 15306: Information Collection because the project consists of research and development of a transient plasma ignition system for heavy-duty natural gas engines that will be solely performed in a laboratory setting and does not involve any construction. The engine testing will be done on an existing engine test cell and will not result in a serious or major disturbance to an environmental resource.
