Document Description
The Department of Fish and Wildlife is issuing a permit to Brooklyn College pursuant to Fish and Game Code Section 2081(a) for research in California state waters. The Section 2081(a) permit authorizes Brooklyn College to incidentally take Longfin Smelt, Coho Salmon, and Chinook Salmon during the course of its research surveys subject to terms and conditions set forth in the permit. The purpose of this research is to collect Plainfin Midshipman (Porichthus notatus) for ongoing behavioral and neurobiological studies of acoustic communication in vocal marine fishes. These projects are conducted at UC Davis Bodega Marine Laboratory, Moss Landing Marine Labs, City University of New York at Brooklyn College, and the University of Washington. These projects have been or are currently funded by the National Institutes of Health and National Science Foundation. Fish will be collected using bottom trawl and beach seine equipment. Although not targeted by either survey, there is the potential for trawl gear to incidentally capture state listed species.
