Document Description
Approved in August 2014, the project provides seismic corrections to the Southeast wing (formerly the Outpatient Wing), School of Medicine East, and the Biomedical Library buildings in the Center for the Health Sciences (CHS), which has a DGS Level V (formerly "Poor") seismic rating and also provides backbone fire suppression and backbone fire alarm systems to serve the CHS complex. As amended, this project would also upgrade seismically upgrade the low-rising wing in the adjacent Dentistry building.

Pursuant to state laws and University of California Procedures for Implementation of CEQA, the proposed project is categorically exempt under Article 19, 15301, Class 1, Existing Facilities. The project is exempt because it consists of the renovation of recently vacated space in an existing facility with negligible expansion of use beyond existing conditions. Furthermore, per CEQA Section 15300.2, none of the exceptions to a Categorical Exemption would apply.
