The proposed project would renovate the existing standard vehicle parking in Lot 36 to a bus yard to house the electric bus fleet and hydrogen fuel cell bus. The project scope includes modifications to the existing lot; construction of new access driveways; purchase and installation of a new electrical transformer and charging station, including power and data ports for the 20 electric buses; construction of a bus service island; new site lighting; perimeter fencing, landscaping, and patching repairs to asphalt needed.
As described in the Section 15301 of the CEQA guidelines, the proposed project is classified as a Class 1 Categorical Exemption, which allows for minor alterations of existing structures, including small additions, maintenance, and installation of mechanical equipment. Because it is for an existing bus fleet, the project's conversion of a parking lot to a bus yard would not expand use or the physical footprint of the campus. In accordance with Section 15300.2 of the CEQA Guidelines, there are no cumulative impacts, expected significant effects on environmental resources, hazardous waste or historic sites, scenic highways, or other limiting factors or unusual circumstances that would make the exemption inapplicable based on the project records.
