Document Description
The DWR, Division of Safety Dams has requested Sweetwater Authority make improvements to the South Dike and other facilities. The purpose of this geotechnical exploration is to obtain information on the composition and properties of the sound berm of State Route 125, and the thickness and character of the rip rap and rock drain of the South Dike. Using a hand-auger, borings will be made on the northern flank of the sound berm and on a near hiking trail to a depth of 10 to 15 feet. Using a backhoe, shallow test pits will be made on the downstream side of the South Dike. For public safety purposes, the trail will be temporarily closed or rerouted while geotechnical exploration is performed. This duration of trail closure or rerouting is not expected to be more than one day. Appropriate construction BMPs will be implemented throughout the duration of this project. Laboratory testing will follow.
