Document Description
The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC), a department of the City and County of San Francisco (City), operates the Hetch Hetechy Water and Power System, which provides water to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife's Moccasin Creek Fish Hatchery (Hatchery) from Moccasin Reservoir. Starting January 2017, the City will be shutting down the eighteen miles of mountain tunnels that lead to Moccasin Reservoir for 60 days for maintenance (Shutdown). During the Shutdown, no water will be flowing into Moccasin Reservoir, and only 3 cubic feet per second (cfs) will be available to the Hatchery, as opposed to the 30 cfs that is otherwise required to operate the Hatchery. The Hatchery must remain in operation to maintain the lives of those fish in the Hatchery, including rainbow trout and endangered Lahontan cutthroat trout (Pilot Peak Strain), necessary for the Tahoe Basin Recovery Effort. These fish should not be moved.
