Document Description
DGS proposes to construct and operate a 1.79 MW electricity wind turbine at the CTF with the purpose of offsetting electricity usage required by prison facility operations at SVSP and CTF.
The proposed wind turbine is a GE Energy 1.79 MW-100m turbine. This model is a three-bladed, upwind, horizontal-axis wind turbine with a rotor radius of 165 feet (50.29 meters). The turbine rotor and nacelle are mounted on top of a tubular steel tower, giving a rotor hub height of 262 feet (80 meters), for a total structural height of up to 427 feet (130.15 meters). The machine employs active yaw control (designed to steer the machine with respect to the wind direction), and can operate at variable speeds using active blade pitch control (designed to regulate turbine rotor speed). The turbine uses a doubly fed asynchronous generator with a partial power conversion system (designed to produce nominal 60 Hz, 690 volt electric power.
The main shaft bearing is a roller bearing mounted in a pillow-block housing arrangement. The bearings used inside the gearbox are of the cylindrical, spherical, and tapered roller type. These bearings are designed to provide bearing and alignment of the internal gearing shafts and accommodate radial and axial loads.
