The project involves meadow restoration work within the aspen stand-meadow complex of Rucker Meadow near Rucker Lake in the Tahoe National Forest. SYRCL staff and volunteers will use hand tools to remove conifers less than 10 inches in diameter at breast height across 4.46 acres of the aspen stand-meadow complex. Removed conifers will be placed into piles that will be burned at a later date by the US Forest Service. To assess the success of the project the percent cover of aspen conifers in the treated area will be monitored before removal and 2-3 years after removal.
Project involves habitat restoration to enhance habitat that is carried out with hand tools and non-mechanized equipment. The project involves removing conifers so that the aspen-stand meadow can be regenerated. There will be no significant adverse impact on endangered, rare or threatened species or their habitat there are no known hazardous materials at the project site.
