Document Description
This project will replace and maintain trees within the monarch butterfly grove. Over the years many eucalyptus, Monterey cypress, and Monterey pine trees have succumbed to storm/wind damage, disease, and maturity. Each lost tree lessens the wind protection and ability for the monarchs to cluster/roost within the grove. This project will plant eighty Monterey cypress trees of various sizes, the largest being 36 inches. Planting will be done in dry conditions, consideration will be given to the proper hole size, hand shovels will be used. There is an above ground drip line irrigation system in place. A small number of wax Myrtle trees will be planted along the Meadow Creek trail to help restore the riparian plant community adjacent to the monarch grove.
