DTSC, pursuant to regulatory authority granted under Ch. 6.8, Section 25356.1 et Seq. of the Health and Safety Code has approved the Feasibility Study/Remedial Action Plan (FS/RAP) for cleanup of contaminated soils and sediments at Habitat Area 2 (HA-2) for the Zeneca/Former Stauffer Chemical Site. The purpose of the project is to protect people and the environment by remediating and prevent exposures to chemicals above screening levels in sediment, soil and groundwater. The recommended cleanup alternative in the FS/RAP includes excavation and off-site disposal of approx. 46,400 cubic yards of sediments and soil; import of approx. 26,600 cubic yards of cleanup backfill; in situ treatment of sediments containing moderate levels of proprietary pesticides with granular activated carbon; habitat restoration followed by monitoring and reporting; and institutional controls.
