Document Description
The 7th DAA proposes to demolish and replace four existing livestock barns on the Monterey County Fairgrounds. The four barns proposed for replacement are open air barns built in the early 1950s. The barns are located within a mature stand of oak trees. The existing barns will be replaced with five new structures of similar overall size and appearance. Configuration of the structures will be similar to the existing configuration but with minor differences to avoid impacts to mature oak trees.

Reasons for Exemption
The project is located on an existing public facility and involves replacement of four existing livestock barns. The five replacement structures will be substantially the same size and serve the same or similar purpose. The project will not result in the expansion of an existing use of require expansion of public facilities. Due to the age of the existing structures, consultation with the State Historic Preservation Officer was initiated. The SHPO concurred that the structures are not eligible for listing on the NRHP/CRHR and therefore not historic resources. None of the exceptions for exemptions apply to the project site.
