Document Description
San Diego Unified School District proposes to conduct a whole site modernization of the existing Hancock ES campus, which is located on federal land leased from the US Navy. The proposed whole site modernization would include the demolition of fifteen existing portable classrooms, renovation of three existing loft-style classrooms to include permanent partitions, improved site path of travel, construction of a new on site student drop off area, and installation of a new artificial turf play field. The proposed project would replace a total of 15 existing portable classrooms with two new 8 classroom buildings, and thus would not result in a net increase in classroom space greater than 10 new classrooms. The existing total enrollment at Hancock ES is approximately 660 students. The proposed project would not increase the net student capacity of the campus. In addition, the school was built between 1975-1978; therefore the buildings proposed for demolition are less than 45 years old and not considered historical structures.
