Document Description
The purpose of this project is to estimate emission potential of various surface types in areas west of the Salton Sea within the boundaries of the Ocotillo Wells SVRA. Emissions potential measurements will be conducted at three sites using a PI-SWERL portable instrument transported y field personnel pushing a 3-wheele stroller containing the equipment. Measurements will be taken at three locations within 100 meters of site center point. The PI-SWERL is placed directly on the ground surface and, via a rapidly rotating disk, generates wind underneath the device that may disturb the top layer of the underlying surface (sand & dust). PI-SWERL sampling will be performed every 2-3 months with a seasonal emphasis spanning October-April. The PI-SWERL research will be temporary, has no subsurface disturbance, and will be located in areas devoid of vegetation.
