The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is issuing a permit to Dr. Jason Sexton pursuant to Fish and Game Code Section 2081(a) for a project to conduct above-ground vernal pool plant surveys and habitat characterization, use metabarcoding to assess vernal pool seedbank biodiversity and intraspecific diversity of listed plant species, compare above ground biodiversity with seedbank biodiversity and develop genetic markers for Neostapfia colusana, Orcuttia inaequalis, and Orcuttia Pilosa and apply those markers to a population genetic study for N. colusana.

The project will facilitate the recovery or the California endangered Neostapfia colusana, Orcuttia inaequalis, Orcuttia pilosa, Pseudobahia bahiifolia, Castilleja campestris ssp. Succulent, and rare Tuctoria greenei by attempting to gain insight into the genetic diversity of the species as well as assess the characteristics and biodiversity in the habitats where these plants occurs. The permit issued by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife for the Project includes measures to ensure that existing populations of these listed plants are not impacted.
