Document Description
SMUD proposes to install a 100 foot long steel pole that will be used to support two 115kV circuits. There is a set of poles that currently exist in the transmission easement and they support two 115kV lines consisting of 6 wires and two fiber optic communication circuits. The pole will be directly embedded 15 feet into the ground with the diameter of the hole measuring approximately four feet. Once construction is complete the pole will be 85 feet tall at finished grade. This pole will assist in reducing the span between the existing poles from 595 feet to 476 feet there by eliminating additional sag in the line when temperatures increase and to also decrease the blowout of the line when high winds occur.

SMUD has determined that the 115kV Pole Installation at Q19 Site Project is exempt under CEQA Guidelines §15303 New Construction or conversion of Small Structures, "Class 3 consists of construction and location of limited numbers of new, small facilities or structures; installation of small new equipment and facilities in small structures; and the conversion of existing small structures from one use to another where only minor modifications are made in the exterior of the structure.
