Document Description
The proposed project would remove a 10,000 gal. Above-ground storage tank (AST) from the Bakersfield CHP Area Office and transport the AST to the Buttonwillow Area Office for installation. Appropriate transportation permit(s) will be obtained prior to relocation of the AST. In preparation of relocation and installation to the AST at the Buttonwillow office, an existing 10,000 gal. underground storage tank (UST) and associated appurtenances will be removed from the Buttonwillow Office. Installation of the AST also includes replacement/relocation of fueling appurtenances, including Fuel Island, dispensers, and fuel management system, bollards, monitoring systems, signage and security fencing. Parking lots will be re-paved and re-striped to comply with the American with disabilities act. If soil contamination related to the fueling system is discovered, the project may also include removal of up to 50 tons of contaminated soil. If contamination is more extensive, the remediation will be considered a separate action for purposes of CEQA. Any removal action will comply with applicable State and local environment permitting requirements.

The project is located on existing public facilities and involves relocation of an existing fueling station and equipment. The project will not result in the expansion of an existing use. The scales of the hazardous waste removal action proposed are considered a minor cleanup action. Any removal action will comply with applicable State and local environmental permitting requirements. The project is not on a site included on a list compiled pursuant to Section 65962.5 of the government code.
