Document Description
Removal of Forbs, brush and trees less than 10 inches in diameter within the Shaws Flat Road and Jamestown Road rights-of-way to reduce the probability of wildland fire starts and eliminate trees and limbs overhanging the roadways. Vegetation removal will be performed by hand crews utilizing chain saws and hand tools. Forbs and brush less than 6 inches in height and trees less than 12 inches in height will be retained. Residual trees will be pruned to 14 feet or 1/3 of the tree height, whichever is less. Elderberry shrubs that exceed one inch in diameter located below 3,000 feet in elevation will be retained. Vegetation will be disposed of through chipping and spreading or removal to a green waste facility.

After reviewing the project and its setting, the Environmental Coordinator for the County of Tuolumne has determined that the project is categorically exempt from review under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), pursuant to Section 15304 of the State CEQA guidelines because the project consist of minor alterations in the condition of vegetation which would not result in the removal of healthy, mature or scenic trees; the project would not significantly impact special status species of plants or animals or cultural resources; and would not result in significant erosion or sedimentation of surface waters.
