Ione Road Bridge Replacement over Buckeye Creek

The proposed project consists of the replacement of the existing bridge on Ione Road over Buckeye Creek (Bridge No. 24C-250). The project will replace the existing structurally deficient bridge with a new structure. The existing single span concrete deck slab with steel stringers was built in 1950 and is 62 ft long and 28 ft wide. The existing roadway is two lanes with little to no shoulder and does not meet current American Association of State HWY and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) standards. The proposed replacement bridge will be a single span precast, pre-stressed wide-flange girder bridge on seat abutments with 12 inch "H" piles. The replacement bridge will provide two 12-oot traffic lanes with six-foot paved shoulders and barrier rail on both sides for a total width of 40 feet. The shoulders will provide space for future Class II bikeways, consistent with the Sacramento County's Bikeway Master Plan. The proposed scope of work for this project includes: bridge demolition, channel slope protection, roadway approach work, and bridge construction. The total length of the project is expected to be approx. 500 feet, which includes a new 80-foot long bridge with approx. 200 feet of roadway approach work on each side of the bridge. Special construction techniques include the construction of a retaining wall on the southwest side of the bridge. In addition, rock slope protection and fill will be placed ont he southeast bank to repair and prevent further erosion.
