Document Description
*Note, per lead agency, correction on 10.25.24: "...from 12 to 9 new drill wells." - see memo.
Synergy Oil & Gas, LLC proposed a supplemental notice to the 12 previously permitted new oil wells in the Seal Beach Oil Field, in the City of Long Beach, to continue resource development. The supplementary notice was submitted to adjust the surface locations of the 12 new oil wells. The supplementary notice was reviewed in conjunction with the Final Environmental Impact Report (FEIR) and the prior related Responsible Agency review. The proposed project in the supplementary notice falls within the scope of the environmental document and no new impacts or changes were identified requiring additional environmental review. The 12 new oil wells are part of a larger project disclosed in the certified CEQA document which consists of consolidating the operator’s existing oil operations and implementing wetlands habitat restoration activities that would provide new public access opportunities to this portion of the Los Cerritos Wetlands. Work consists of site preparation, drilling, testing, and ancillary construction for storage and processing of product as well as connections for new production equipment to existing pipelines, as well as new pipeline connections. The work is estimated to take 303 days to complete once work has begun.
The project is located in the coastal zone and has received approval from the California Coastal Commission. The project has also received approval from the City of Long Beach.
The project activity being permitted by the California Geologic Energy Management Division (CalGEM) is within the scope of the Los Cerritos Wetlands Oil Consolidation and Restoration Project FEIR.
CalGEM, as the CEQA Responsible Agency, approved permits for Synergy Oil & Gas, LLC to drill the wells listed below, in the Seal Beach Oil Field in Los Angeles County.
