Document Description
The project would include installation of five new segments of guardrail totaling approximately 5,300 linear feet. The guardrails are needed to: (1) protect motorists from driving off the road (e.g. Folsom Lake Crossing) into steep, excavated areas of the Joint Federal Project (JFP); (2) protect pedestrians and bicyclists using the Type I bicycle trail that runs along the north side of the road from vehicles that may veer off the road, and; (3) protect existing JFP structures from a potential vehicular impact.

Reasons for Exemption
The guardrail is a safety device for use in conjunction with an existing facility. Installation of the guardrail would occur over a short time span of 1-2 weeks between April 2016 and December 2017. The Contractor would obtain and comply with an encroachment permit from the city of Folsom. Work would require temporary one lane road closures in which flaggers and signs would be positioned at each end of the lane closure to direct traffic. Construction would occur during normal work hours and in accordance with all requirements of CA Dept. of Transportation's "Midwest Guardrail System, Standard Railing Section (Wood Post with Wood Block) 2010 Revised Standard Plan A77L1.
