Document Description
The proposed project involves the replacement of one existing floating dock located at 37 Antigua court in the City of Coronado. One existing 362-square-foot (sf) concrete floating dock would be removed and replaced with a 362 sf fiberglass floating dock. The replacement floating dock would be comprised off the following component: 4-foot by 8-foot laminated framing; 2.5-inch diameter steel torsion tubes; super float pontoons filled with Styrofoam; .75-inch thick Global Grid nonskid fiberglass deck panels; six 14-inch cleats per finger; and 2-foot by 12-foot fascia with white rub strip and corners. Overall the replacement dock would be identical in length, width, and location as the existing floating dock. Additionally, the proposed project would re-use the three existing concrete piles, and the exiting gangway. As such, no pile driving is proposed, and no increase in overwater coverage would result from implementation of the proposed project. A pre-construction eelgrass and Caulerpa taxifolia survey conducted by Marine Taxonomic Services on July 13, 2015, determined that neither eelgrass nor Caulerpa occur within the project area. The proposed project includes the following best management practice to promote continued healthy life cycles of marine habitats and maintain clear navigational channels for boaters; - Utilizing a boom around the project site to capture any debris during removal and installation of the floating dock. It is anticipated that construction of the proposed project would begin in early 2016 and have a total construction period of approximately two weeks. All materials and crew associated with the proposed project would utilize a public launch ramp and travel by water to and from the site; therefore, the project would not generate any vehicle trips. Furthermore, the proposed project would require limited use of construction equipment. Therefore, no impacts would occur. The applicant is responsible for complying with all applicable federal, state, and local laws regulating the process of or has obtained the following approvals and/or permits: Army Corps of Engineers permit and Clean Water Act Section 401 Certification.
