Document Description
The project will maintain previous treatment areas for the fast-growing woody weed species tamarisk (Tamarix ramosissima or T. aphylla) on approximately 4 acres within the Saline Valley Ecological Reserve (Ecological Reserve). Tamarisk provides lower wildlife habitat value and can displace native vegetation through a number of mechanisms incluing increased fire danager and increased soil salinity. Tamarisk infestations are particularly damaging to wetlands such as those present on the Ecological Reserve due to the plant's ability to quickly outcomplete native vegetation, high water consumption, and establish deep roots altering groundwater levels.
