The purpose of the project is to address motorist safety problems on this stretch of road, reducing the number and severity of traffic collisions. Project measures would improve motorist awareness of real-time conditions ahead, allowing drivers to respond earlier to slowing traffic and reducing congestion. The need for the project is that the accident rate on this section of road is well above what would be expected, with a higher traffic fatality and injury rate than the statewide average.
