Document Description
The purpose of this project is to install and operate a compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling facility at the City of San Diego's Environmental Services Operations Station, which currently provides diesel fuel to City of San Diego vehicles. The installation of compressed natural gas fueling equipment under this project supports the planned transition of the fleet's refuse and recycling vehicles from diesel to CNG fuel, providing positive environmental benefits to the areas served by the fleet through reduced vehicular emissions.

Reasons for Exemption
The project involves installation and operation of a compressed natural gas fueling facility located within the existing fueling facility in areas that have previously been paved and/or disturbed. The project includes minor trenching of approximately 2.5 feet wide by 3.5 feet deep and 5,000 linear feet, and new construction of small structures including utility extensions and accessory structures such as concrete pads, bollards, and railings. Therefore, this project consists of minor alteration of existing facilities involving negligible or no expansion of use beyond that existing at the time of the determination, construction of limited numbers of small new facilities or structures and installation of small new equipment and facilities in small structures, and minor alterations to land.
