Document Description
The project consists of conducting four (4) geotechnical borings into bedrock within the lakebed of Lake Tahoe to assess substrate suitability for possible future placement of pier support pilings. The project is limited to the following activities: 1) Establishment of a fully contained, fenced equipment staging area within the parking lot of the Kings Beach State Recreation Area parking lot. 2) A barge-mounted drill rig equipped with mud rotary and rock coring drilling equipment will bore between twenty-five and forty (25-40) feet into the lakebed. 3) Placement of a turbidity curtain or bubble curtain around each bore hole location to contain any drilling fluids that may leak through the lakebed during drilling operations. 4) All drilling fluids (drilling mud) and cuttings will be collected directly from the drill casing and contained in a collection tank on the barge. From there the cuttings and used drilling fluids will be transferred to a truck mounted polytank for transport to an authorized disposal facility outside of the Lake Tahoe basin. 5) Each of the four exploratory bore holes will be backfilled with clean washed sand to grade. A barge mounted drill rig will be launched from the boat launch facility on site and will contain the drill rig and support equipment. A small boat will ferry workers to and from the barge and all other equipment will remain within the fenced staging area on the paved parking lot of the recreation area. site. A truck with an integral polytank will be used to convey all drill cuttings and spent drilling fluids to an approved out-of-basin disposal site.
