Reasons for Exemption
The State CEQA Guidelines provide a series of categorical exemptions for projects that have been deemed to have minimal impacts on the environment. The proposed Taxiway Rehab Project will be implemented to repair taxiways to ensure future safe aircraft operations for planes using the taxiway areas. Categorical Exemption Class I exempts "operation, repair... or minor alteration of existing public or private roadways and structures, facilities and mechanical equipment... involving negligible or no expansion of use beyond that existing at the time of the lead agency's determination." The proposed construction and future utilization of the rehabilitated taxiways have been determined not to have a potential to cause significant adverse environmental effects as a result of any site specific environmental conditions. Therefore, this proposed action is not forecast to cause any potential for significant adverse environmental impacts and qualifies with the requirements for Class 1 Exemption.
