Document Description
The proposed Water Exchange Agreement Between Madera Irrigation District & Fresno Irrigation District would effectuate a voluntary program under which MID would transfer excess surface water supplies to FID when available, in exchange for the return of a percentage of those supplies upon request by MID. Specifically, MID at its discretion may make any quality of water available to transfer to FID from any source available at Friant Dam. FID at its discretion may accept such water. MID will receive credits for any water transferred to FID, in an amount equaling 40% of the water delivered by MID to FID. The initial total number shall not exceed 10,000 acre-feet. MID may accrue up to a total of 25,000 acre-feet of credits. MID at any time may seek the return of any water for which it has credits in an amount not to exceed 2,500 to 3,500 acre-feet/year, depending on hydrology. FID may, but is not required to, provide return water to MID if MID has less than 1,000 acre-feet of credits.
