Butte Fire Center Renovation Project

Project involves renovation of the Butte Fire Center for CA Conservation Corps and CALFIRE use. All work will be conducted within the existing developed and previously-modified areas of the parcel. The total area calculated for soil disturbance is 0.7 acre over approx. 3 acres. The project will include several actions. The septic system will be replaced. Replacement activities will include excavating and trenching, installing a 15,000 gallon concrete septic tank, a 2-pump sewage lift station, and approx. 7,000 feet of leach field trenches, backfilling excavated and trenched areas, repairing disturbed asphalt areas and sidewalks, and destroying the existing septic tank. The main potable water supply-line will be replaced. Replacement activities will include trenching, installing new water supply-line and backfilling trenched areas. The Fire Center Administration Building will be renovated. Renovation activities will include replacing some exterior siding, removing asbestos flooring, installing new flooring, replacing doors and cabinets, and painting. Bedrooms in the Bachelor Officer's Quarters will be converted to office space, and exterior repairs will occur. Conversion and repair activities will include removing asbestos flooring, installing new flooring, replacing doors and cabinets, painting, and replacing some exterior siding. A residence building will be renovated. Renovations will include installing new flooring, replacing doors, painting, and replace some exterior siding. The dormitory will be renovated. Renovation will include new flooring, replacing doors and painting, and it may include installing a sprinkler system. Two-diesel-powered backhoes and two-diesel-powered front loaders and five CALFIRE Technical Services staff members will be required to complete the work. The project will commence in the latter half of Sept. 2015 and will likely be completed by June 2016.
