Document Description
This IS/MND has been prepared by the Department of Parks and Recreation to evaluate the potential environmental effects of the proposed Montana de Oro State Park Unit wide Prescribed Fire Plan, located near the Community of Los Osos, San Luis Obispo County, California. The proposed project would use prescribed fire to maintain a natural fire regime and sustain the biological diversity of the habitats within the project area. The purpose of this project is to create a mosaic of age class habitats as a safeguard against a stand replacing fire involving species that only reproduce from seeds (versus resprouting after a fire), maintain Bishop pine forests, and reduce fire hazards in the San Luis Range. The project consists of various ignition methods depending on terrain and objectives.
