Document Description
The Orange County CUF was constructed in 1968 and provides utility service on a 24-hour-a-day, 365-day-per-year basis serving County and other City, state, and federal buildings in the Civic Center Campus. Located in the Civic Center Campus are essential municipal operations, including the County jails and Coroner's facility; County data systems; County and City administrative offices, including County Board of Supervisors and City administrative offices; IRS Building; and state court facilities. In 2009, the plant boilers were retired and a cogeneration plant was added to the facility.
To further the County's long-term goals of operational safety, improved efficiency, cost effectiveness, and supporting future campus development plans, the proposed project would result in implementation of improvements and equipment replacements recommended by the Strategic Development Plan for the CUF's original utility systems. The Strategic Development Plan identified the most cost-effective and efficient means of upgrading and maintaining the CUF's aging existing original infrastructure as well as further optimizing cogeneration plant operations.
