Document Description
North Kern Water Storage District operates a conjunctive use project that maximizes the capture of available surface water supplies through direct use and groundwater recharge. In drier years previously recharged surface supplies are recovered from the groundwater basin for irrigation (of predominately high value permanent crops) through both District wells (the District currently operates approx. 100 wells) and wells owned by District landowners. Due to physical failures the capacity of many of the District's wells drilled in the 1950s has deteriorated substantially and it is necessary for the District to replace these wells to restore lost capacity and maintain a high level of water service reliability to its landowners.
