Document Description
DWR staff shall oversee the installation of nine exploration by a drilling subcontractor along the exposed bank of Castaic Lake near the right and left abutment of Castaic Dam. Work is being conducted for design purposes related to the new intake tower and associated tunnel at Castaic Dam. The work area is approximately 3,430 feet long (1.16 acres) and below the ordinary high water mark. The total of temporarily disturbed soil is estimated to be 0.041 acres. Work will also include the grading of temporary access points and drilling pads for equipment to install the borings.

The State Water Project provides significant and important services to many Californians. This project is exempt because it involves data collection without major disturbance to an environmental resource. This project will not result in impacts to special status species or habitat. Because this activity can be implemented without any significant environmental impacts, the Categorical Exemption Class 6 will be used for CEQA compliance.
